Two Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design sculpture students have earned honorary mention awards in the 2005 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture competition, sponsored by the International Sculpture Center, publishers of Sculpture Magazine.
Joseph Bolstad of Shorewood, Wis., and Mayuko Kono of Hiroshima, Japan, were among 38 award winners in the annual competition. Both graduated from MIAD this spring and were among a handful of undergraduate students honored in the competition.
Overall, 340 student sculptors from 130 undergraduate and graduate programs throughout the US and Europe took part in the competition. A catalog scheduled for publication in October will feature images of their award-winning work along with the other awardees.
The jury for the awards included renowned sculptors Matthew McCaslin and Judith Shea, and gallery director Jenny Dixon.
