MIAD names new Vice President of Academic Affairs

Steve Hansen, MIAD Vice President of Academic Affairs

Steven Lee Hansen has been named Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). He began his role August 1, 2021.

Hansen most recently served as the chief academic officer of the Munson-Williams-Proctor School of Art and dean of PrattMWP College of Art and Design. Hansen also has experience as dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Central Oklahoma and chair of the Department of Visual Art, Communication and Design at Andrews University, Mich. Hansen has a BFA from Andrews University and MFA from the University of Notre Dame.

Hansen is a ceramic artist, has extensive classroom experience, and also brings experience in strategic planning, curriculum development, budgeting, crisis management, recruitment, retention, advancement and developing community partnerships.

At MIAD, Hansen will provide strategic direction for the college’s academic programs and operations, faculty recruitment, as well as the college’s library, galleries, institutional technology, international programming, Emerging Technology Center and MIAD Innovation Center.

Dale Shidler, MIAD’s former Vice President of Academic Affairs, will overlap with Hansen at the beginning of August to assist with training, and then return to his role as a full-time professor.
