Meals

Although MIAD’s residence hall offers fully equipped kitchens, MIAD also provides an on-campus café – a gathering place for all students. MIAD requires a minimum $500 annual meal plan for all residential students. You may choose to add additional funds to your minimum plan, or purchase food independently to prepare in your apartment kitchen. The minimum meal plan is a direct cost paid to MIAD for residential students with a $250 allotment applied to each semester.

MIAD uses the College Board’s estimate for additional food costs residential students may incur for the duration of the academic year. The estimated cost for food is $1,000 per academic year, for food prepared in your apartment, eating out or enjoying MIAD’s dining services. This cost will vary based on individual eating preferences.

Art Supplies

As a Foundations student, the Core Kit and Studio Mini-Kits will contain the base of supplies you need for your first year. However, additional supplies may be needed throughout your first year. Although it is difficult to provide the exact cost of supplies you will need based on varying work habits and media, we recommend budgeting $450 – $600 annually.

Upper-level students receive supply lists and information from their instructors during the first week of classes. The supplies needed vary greatly based on your chosen major courses. Approximately $600 – $1,000 should be budgeted annually.

Books

MIAD estimates the cost of textbooks during the academic year at $275. You will receive a book list during the summer to confirm the books you will need based on your scheduled courses.

Laptop

MIAD requires all students to own a laptop with required software. More information is mailed to admitted students in March.

Parking

Parking is available for commuting students on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $250 per semester. Parking permits can be purchased through MIAD’s Security Department. Information on parking is available online.
