Fall 2019 New Student Information

Welcome to MIAD!


On behalf of the faculty and staff at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, we look forward to welcoming you on-campus. This page is exclusively for new students who have decided to attend MIAD in the upcoming fall.


Tuition Deposit

To secure a space in our Fall 2019 Class, students are required to submit a Tuition Deposit. This payment informs MIAD that you intend to enroll for the upcoming semester.

New Move-In date & Parent Orientation for Wisconsin Residents

From Tony Nowak, Dean of Students:

MIAD is experiencing unprecedented enrollment growth which is causing us to re-design many of our campus functions and events. One of the changes we have to make is to split 252 move-in into two days and run two separate parent orientation programs so we have space for everyone on campus.

Move-in and parent orientation for Wisconsin students is Tuesday, August 20th. Move-in and parent orientation for Out-of-State students is Wednesday, August 21st.

All new students were sent an individualized move-in and orientation package via email. If you did not receive this email, please contact Mark Fetherston at

Laptop Purchase Guide

MIAD Housing Process

The housing process at Two50Two, MIAD’s housing has two steps:

Both steps are now open for new students.  Traditional students who live outside of a 45-mile radius from MIAD are required to live on-campus for their freshman and sophomore years.

Email Accounts

Students will receive their official MIAD email account starting May 8.  Activation instructions have been sent to students’ personal email address. If you are deposited and have not received your activation instructions, contact Mark Fetherston.

Logistics & Technology (added August 6)
  • LOGISTICS: All the things you NEED to do, and few things you might WANT to do. Many of them you’ve already completed, but some you may have forgotten. Download Logistics & Technology for more information.
Supplies (added August 6)


  • SUPPLIES: MIAD provides some supplies through Core & Mini Kits, and you will need to purchase other supplies throughout the year.
Books and Software (added July 23)

The required and recommended textbooks for fall are now available at

The list also includes software.  PLEASE NOTE: All full-time MIAD students receive Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) and Microsoft Office, paid through a MIAD student fee which cannot be refunded.  DO NOT PURCHASE / SUBSCRIBE TO ADOBE CC or MS OFFICE. You will receive an email in August with instructions on how to download Adobe CC and Microsoft Office

New Student Orientation (added July 26)

Adobe Creative Cloud (added Aug 6)

All MIAD students receive a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. To download your software:

  • Login to the MIAD portal at
  • Click on ‘My Adobe Downloads’
  • At the Adobe page, click ‘Sign In’ in the upper-right corner
  • Type in your email address (no need to type in your password) and ‘Continue
  • You can now begin downloading your software. You can download any CC app, but the following will be used freshman year
    • Bridge
    • Photoshop
    • Illustrator
    • InDesign
    • Premiere

Microsoft Office (added Aug 6)

All MIAD students receive a subscription to Microsoft Office 365. To download your software:

  • Login to the MIAD portal at
  • Click ‘Office 365’
  • Click ‘Install Office’ and download desired software
