Our next Alumni Council meeting is Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m., and ALL Alumni are welcome!
We will meet at Var Gallery & Studios in Walkers Point (643 S 2nd Street Milwaukee WI, 53204). Please help by spreading the word and inviting your MIAD Alumni friends and colleagues.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Josh Hintz ’12, owner and operator of Var Gallery, has graciously invited alumni to stay for a FREE figure drawing session at the gallery. Bring your cash because beverages will be available throughout the evening.

Maeve Jackson ’14, Brandon McGee ’14 and Eleanor Hazard ’14 are featured in “How to Function” at MOXY Studio (133 W Pittsburgh Ave.) on Gallery Night, April 17.

Charles Stevens ’81 is showing his 3D printed digital sculpture at RAPID 2015, a show dealing with rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing. He was selected out of several thousand to be one of the handful of artists to have work printed and displayed at this event.
Charles will also be in the Gallery 326 show during Gallery Night, April 17.

Vedale Hill ’10 is the president of Jazale’s Art Studio, and the Grand Opening is on Saturday April 18, with a reception from 1-6 p.m.

A silent auction features dozens of original art pieces with all proceeds supporting the after school and summer arts programs that Jazale’s art studio offers.

Justin Kay ’04 is Managing Creative Director of Doubleday & Cartwright, a Brooklyn-based design agency that redesigned the new Milwaukee Bucks logo.

Dave Nelson ’02 was featured in this year’s Communication Arts Annual as the Managing Creative Director for Control Group (New York, NY), which partnered with the New York City MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) to develop the On the Go digital kiosks.
Nelson recently started a new role in California at MSFT, leading a new team of designers and researchers on collaboration and connection tools.

Tasha-Nova Borozny ’12 was part of a recent juried exhibition in the McKinney Adult Art Show in McKinney, Texas for her digital painting s. She placed second in the Digital Art category.

Jonathan Ralph ’08 started a new job at IBM as an iOS Design Consultant. Excited Ralph says, “You know who else was a Design Consultant at IBM? Paul Rand!”

Steve Horvath ’70 is in two concurrently running exhibitions.
Steve had one of his watercolors, “Fall Skeletons,” selected for a juried competition in the statewide annual exhibition, Watercolor Wisconsin at the Wustum Museum in Racine. The exhibition will run through Saturday, April 25.
Steve also recently showed at the Fanny Garver Gallery in Madison.

Lydia Jarvis ’11, Jillian Duckwitz ’10 and Nate Pyper ’12 are teaming up for an event called Design Like Mad. It’s a day-long “design marathon” that pairs teams of creative professionals with nonprofits to provide pro-bono design work. Design Like Mad will take place at the Milwaukee Public Library’s Central Branch on Saturday, May 2.

Cudahy artist Dave Hansen ’92 was featured in OnMilwaukee for his tiki log carvings that can be found in local shops and bars like Foundation in Riverwest.

Artistic Residences Fine Arts – Lisbon Program – The Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon is opening it’s doors to students, alumni and emerging artists from all over the world to be inspired by the beautiful and amazing historic city of Lisbon. They invite you to the old monastery that today gives life to the Faculty of Fine Arts, to produce and exhibit their works through an artistic residence methodology.
There are 20 vacancies for the Artistic Residences of Fine Arts Lisbon program for artists. The applications needs to be send to fineartsresidences@fba.ul.pt between 20th March and 20th May. Contact Beatriz Bento, Department of international affairs, at beatriz.bento@fba.ul.pt for more information.

Call for 3D work for “Sculpture and Blues”
Opportunity presented by SVA (Sheboygan Visual Arts), for sculptors to show and possibly sell their work at an exhibit that will open on one of SVA’s monthly Final Friday’s that usually welcome 100 – 250 artists and friends. This show will be unique, however, in that it will be the first time that an SVA exhibit will show work by non-members. Live blues music will highlight the opening event.

PRESENT WORKS – One Nighter Series – Call For Proposal
During the month of June, 2015, Present Works will host four one-night pop-up shows. Each Sunday, a different artist(s) will create a show/event that takes advantage of “one night only” notions. These shows will be ephemeral, and exist for 3 hours on a Sunday night. They may be film screenings, stand up comedy routines, performances, live painting collaborations, artist-led activities, or a number of other ideas. Applications are due by Friday, May 1.
