How to apply for MIAD Scholarships and Financial Aid All students attending MIAD must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is completed as an electronic application on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To ensure that you will not miss out on consideration for all funds, complete your application as soon as possible. Your MIAD financial aid package will tell you the approximate MIAD costs for 2008 and the kinds and amounts of scholarships and financial aid you are eligible for. It will have information as to specific requirements that you have to fulfill to receive your scholarships and financial aid. If your award letter is identified as an "ESTIMATE", the awards listed on the letter are tentative and subject to change. If you have received an early estimate your financial aid award will become "FINAL" when your financial aid file is complete. In order to complete your financial aid file, you must file a FAFSA and submit all required "missing" documents. If you wish to decline any part of your award, please indicate it on your award letter and return to the Financial Aid Office. Up to 30% of all students are selected in a process called "Verification". This means that we must verify or check information on your financial aid forms against federal income tax returns or other documents to make sure your answers are correct. Students selected for verification have a message informing them about verification on their Student Aid Report (SAR); a multi-page report students receive after their FAFSA has been processed. If your application has been selected for verification, please note that your financial aid award will not be "FINAL" until the verification process has been completed. Additional documentation may be required if you are an independent student, or if information on your application was unclear or inconsistent. Please submit any requested information as soon as possible, and contact the MIAD Financial Aid Office if you have difficulty getting any requested documents. Failure to provide requested information in a timely manner may result in the loss of financial aid funds. We can help with all sources of potential student financial aid, including those that are not based on need. MIAD has two primary types of financial aid: gift aid and self-help aid. Gift aid (scholarships and grants) is money that does not have to be paid back or earned. Self-help (loans and work opportunities) is money that has to be paid back or earned. Both gift aid and self-help aid are valuable tools used in the financing of a MIAD education. Financial Aid Application Process 1. Apply for admission to MIAD. This starts the entire admissions, financial aid, and scholarship process. Complete the Financial Aid Estimate Worksheet if you want to receive an early financial aid estimate. 2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov starting January 1, 2008. 3. Please use the MIAD school code 014203 on the FAFSA. This informs the federal processor you want MIAD to receive the results of your FAFSA. 4. Financial aid and scholarship award notifications are mailed to new students on a rolling basis. 5. Review your award. Provide MIAD with all requested documents. Common requests are for previous year's taxes and investment information. 6. Contact MIAD's financial aid office with any questions about your scholarship and financial aid award or missing required documents.
