Textiles Lab
MIAD’s Textiles Lab is a textiles based workspace open to students in all disciplines. Located in the sunlit, room 250, the lab houses the following equipment and materials for textile exploration:
- 19 Janome sewing machines
- 4 industrial sewing machines
- 4 sergers
- Cover stitch machine
- Silver Reed knitting machine
- Dress forms
- Cutting tables
- Leather working tools
- Grommet machine
- Donated fabric, yarn and thread for students to use

The lab is monitored and maintained by the Textiles Lab Technician and knowledgeable student workers. Curriculum based sewing, such as the Sophomore Industrial Design Backpack project, Concept to Pattern course, Visual Language embroidery project and a variety of NSP projects including clothing design, felting, quilt making and fabric dyeing are accomplished in the Textiles Lab. This lab, open to all students, is designed for technical skill building, conceptual advancement and exploratory research.

MIAD Values Recognition Award: Arma Zeqiri
Arma Zeqiri, Lead Housekeeper, received the September 2025 MIAD Values Recognition Award at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). Arma’s nominations highlighted her embodiment of MIAD’s Core Values, especially Kindness and Community.

First-year Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) student Jonas Haggith ’29 found MIAD’s Design Internship program so beneficial as a high schooler he participated in it two years in a row.
Paris study abroad illuminates creative practice for students
Madison Boeder ’25 found that study abroad trips through the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) resonated so strongly with their practice that the Fine Art + New Studio Practice major (Art History minor) went on two: Florence in 2024 and, this year, Paris.

In Animation Career Review’s 2025 college rankings, the Illustration and Animation programs at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design were once again ranked number 1 in the state.
