yi-mmoca-webFoundations Professor Jason S. Yi was named a 2014 recipient of the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation 2014 Painters & Sculptors grant for his work in sculpture.

Yi’s recent work includes an exhibition at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, “Jason S. Yi: A Fragile Permanence,” on view August 12 – November 9. In this recent exhibition, Yi built a three-dimensional structure that spanned the length of MMoCA’s State Street Gallery.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, Vietnam and Italy, and has also participated in many “Wisconsin Triennial” exhibitions at MMoCA.

Yi is one of 25 artists awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, and the only artist from Wisconsin. The Painters & Sculptors Grant Program, established in 1993, acknowledges painters and sculptors creating exceptional work through unrestricted career support.

Candidates were considered through an anonymous process by a panel of prominent visual artists and curators.
