“This entire exhibition is a beautiful cross-section from the students. This is a learning moment and it is a celebratory moment,” Professor of Humanities James Barany commented at the Sixth Annual Juried Foundations Exhibition opening reception.
Foundations students submitted 184 works, and 69 were chosen by juror Lee Ann Garrison, Chair of the Department of Art & Design for the Peck School of the Arts at UW-Milwaukee.
Garrison remarked, “It was a surprise and a joy to come in and jury this show. I looked at the creativity and problem-solving, and was really impressed with this work.”
Four students were named winners at the opening reception on April 6, 2012:
Joshua Andrew Govek – First place, “Exploration of 3D Form w/2D Material”
Lawrence Frater – Second place, “Untitled,” charcoal and soft pastels
Nicholas Gifford – Third place, “Grand Memories,” Diptych Oil
Linda Marie Moncada – Third place, “UNTITLED”
The Foundations Exhibition reflects the quality of MIAD’s first-year experience, which was reinvented under the leadership of Foundations Chair Jason S. Yi in 2010.
The Juried Foundations Exhibition will be on view Gallery Night, April 20, from 5 – 9:30 p.m., and Gallery Day, April 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the former Eisner building, 208 N. Water Street.
