Royal BrevvaxlingRoyal Brevväxling is a writer, educator, and visual artist with a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His academic writing and research interests develop from themes in cultural studies and critical pedagogy. He joined MIAD’s writing faculty in 2013.

Royal’s visual art often focuses on constructions of class and gender. His photographs have been published in OnMilwaukee.com, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Details magazine, and numerous websites; he is currently documenting Milwaukee’s service industry professionals to feature what is intimate and personal within the large-scale forces of power in the American workplace. He regularly exhibits photos and constructed designs and is also co-writing a walking book of Milwaukee with his partner.

Royal teaches at MIAD because the unique college provides a central location to combine all of his interests and because the energy of its students is a creative inspiration.
