Brian Bowles (MIAD alum, 2001) brings an extensive career working in retail marketing to MIAD’s Communication Design program. His experience began with design and art direction of in-store graphics and displays for an agency with national and international clients including Foot Locker, Champs Sports, Timberland, Adidas, Nike, and Converse. In 2006, Brian moved to an in-house position at Kohl’s Department Stores where he led teams in the creation of seasonal campaigns and new brands. After 10 years at Kohl’s, he went on to become the Creative Director for JOANN Stores where he led a team through a complete brand redesign including the JOANN logo, in-store marketing, website, direct mail, email marketing, and the JOANN mobile app.
In addition to teaching, Brian continues working as a freelance designer focused on branding and logo design as well as creating hand-silkscreened posters for events including the Harley Davidson 115th Anniversary. His signature style and passion for logo design and brand development led him to be featured in Sideburn Magazine in 2019.
Brian is the father of three daughters and loves being outside. You can find him riding motorcycles, mountain biking, climbing Machu Picchu in Peru or exploring Wisconsin State Parks.
