  • What Was, What Is: A Portrait Experience with Nic Umbs

    Step into a powerful exploration of memory, history and legacy through photography. Using a century-old family camera adapted for the digital age, Nic Umbs creates hauntingly beautiful portraits that reveal both what we remember and what time erases. Join the experience, engage in conversation and reflect on how photographs shape our personal histories.

    Join us for the 2025 Milwaukee National Portfolio Day hosted by the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design! This event is free and open to the public on MIAD's campus. This is an opportunity for you to meet with representatives from accredited art and design colleges across the nation. Representatives will review your artwork, discuss their programs and answer questions about professional careers in design, art and creative fields.

    We look forward to meeting you, discussing your work and how your passion can find purpose at MIAD.
