State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) Student Complaints Policy
(for interstate distance education)

MIAD participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) through the approval of the State of Wisconsin’s Distance Learning Authorization Board (DLAB). SARA has an established complaint-resolution process for concerns arising from interstate distance education. Any such complaints should first follow MIAD’s institutional student grievance process (https://miad-student-handbook.helpdocsonline.com/student-grievance-policy-procedure). If a complaint is not resolved through MIAD’s institutional process, the student may pursue the matter through Wisconsin’s SARA complaint process. This process only applies to distance education activity which is conducted across state lines where the terms of the SARA agreement, or of laws, standards or regulations incorporated by the Midwestern State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA Policies and Standards) are being violated. No other complaints shall be considered by the DLAB. However, other resolution options may be available to the complainant as noted on the DLAB student complaints webpage. The DLAB has no statutory or lawful authority or responsibility to respond to complaints related to course grades, academic sanctions or discipline/conduct matters in regard to any institution within the State of Wisconsin. More information is provided and complaints may be filed at the following link: https://heab.state.wi.us/dlab/students.html
