Milwaukee County Historical Society honors MIAD

Milwaukee County Historical Society Awards 2024.
In celebration of 50 years of art and design education, the Milwaukee County Historical Society honored the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) at their annual Awards Dinner on May 9, 2024.
MIAD received an Anniversary Accolade award to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Other 50-year awardees included Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Iota Delta Chapter, Brass Light Gallery, Hales Corners Historical Society, Historic Milwaukee, Inc., Hunger Task Force, Inc., JME Ellsworth, The Packing House and UWM Foundation. MIAD President Jeff Morin accepted the award on the college’s behalf.
At Creative Fusion, MIAD’s annual fundraising gala, Morin said, “We are proud to celebrate 50 years of education excellence … to see our founders’ vision flourish, to grow our programs and to bring life-changing careers to the increasing numbers of students who wish to access a MIAD education.”

Deanna Tillisch, outgoing chair of the board at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), received a student-commissioned monotype print in recognition of her service. “Deanna Dancing” was made by Anna Louise Barr ’26 (Fine Art + New Studio Practice).

Brunson ’14, an alum and assistant professor of Writing and Humanities at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), recently accepted two awards: Best Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Initiative (Business) at the 34th annual Wisconsin Main Street Awards and Historic King Drive Business of the Year.
Fine Art senior selected for Tidal Shift Award
Marta Tereziya ’26 (Fine Art + New Studio Practice), a senior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), was recognized with a 2025 Tidal Shift award for her oil painting “Global Warning.” The award celebrates young artists who want to solve the climate crisis.
