Product Design junior lands Nike GLAM internship

Emma May Travitz, Product Design ’24, already a thoughtful and passionate designer, will hone her skills further as part of Nike’s Global Apparel Materials (GLAM) Team during a Summer 2023 internship. Originally from Rochester Hills, Michigan, Travitz also studies Sustainability and Soft Goods Design at MIAD.
Travitz, who last summer worked at MillerKnoll (Herman Miller) as a Color, Material, and Finish Intern, says that “material is at the forefront and the driving factor of my practice.” Creating to harness the power of materials to tell a story is her passion. Her products are “designed for interaction, calibrating for use and enjoyment… what I make is an extension of me, more than me,” she explains in her work “More than Me (My Inspirations and Influences).”
Inspired by her friends, faith and heritage, her brother and her individuality, Travitz translates “narrative and history into design through inspirations like memory, association and transformation,” a creative practice galvanized by her understanding and exploration of legacy. “I hope one day I can better the planet and people through… senses and stories. Material is a tangible change, and one I need to be a part of,” she says.
When choosing MIAD, Travitz looked for a college with a competitive program where she could take advantage of one-on-one guidance, “…a place where my individual interests in design are celebrated and fostered in a tight knit, creative product design community.”

Haggerty Museum of Art features work by MIAD Fine Art professor
A towering column of life-size red-crowned cranes molded out of mulberry pulp has visitors to the Haggerty Museum of Art craning their necks to take in the sculpture. Work by Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) Professor Jason S. Yi is featured as part of the Haggerty Museum’s exhibition “This Side of the Stars: Rauschenberg’s “Stoned Moon” in the Company of Kite, Paglen, and Yi.”

MIAD professor, alum named 2026 Mary L. Nohl Fellows
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) Communication Design professor Laura Farahzad Mayer and alum Nomka Enkhee ’25 (Fine Art + New Studio Practice) each received one of five Mary L. Nohl Fellowships for 2026. The recipients of emerging artist awards, Farahzad Mayer and Enkhee were selected from among 168 applicants.
