MIAD students sweep the United Adworkers Student Showcase awards
Each year, United Adworkers hosts The Ninety Nine Adworkers Showcase featuring the best advertising work in Wisconsin. This year, MIAD Communication Design students and recent alumni won all five Student Showcase awards, including the Gold (first place), Runner Up and Featured awards.
The following MIAD students and alumni, listed in order from first place through featured, received awards:
- Amanda Levinaite ’20 created an app that helps partners overcome communication challenges to better their relationship.
- Berea Ames ’20 designed a clothing line to help children with sensory processing issues.
- Kelsey Robinson ’21 designed campaign materials in support of the popular Rockabilly Chili Fundraiser for WMSE, a local radio station.
- Mallory Kubenik ’20 designed a website to help adults understand medication labels through the use of iconography to simplify medication instructions.
- Ori Baez ’20 created a card system to help young girls build confidence and unlearn body dysmorphia.
This competition is highly competitive and a landmark event in the Milwaukee advertising industry. Student submissions were judged by the Adworkers Board of Directors.

MIAD Fine Art alums receive state, regional Emerging Artist Awards
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) Fine Art alums Phoenix S. Brown ’19 and Erin Krembs ’14 each received a 2024 Emerging Artist Award this spring from a prestigious state or regional organization.
Penfield Poster 2024 winners announced
Continuing a long-standing collaboration between advertising agency Cramer-Krasselt and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), juniors in Illustration IV designed posters for the Annual Croquet Ball fundraiser at the Penfield Children’s Center.
Milwaukee Ballet sponsor features work by Illustration senior
Working through the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s (MIAD) Lubar Innovation Center, Illustration senior Kayla VanProoyen was hired to produce an ad highlighting the Milwaukee Ballet’s presenting sponsor, the Herzfeld Foundation.
Löwe: Senior Exhibition 2024
“Löwe,” Zach Scharrer’s ’24 (Product Design) senior exhibition project at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), is a bespoke adaptive formalwear line designed in collaboration with employees at Independence First.
Forgotten Nation: Senior Exhibition 2024
“Forgotten Nation,” Tanesha Spencer’s ’24 (Communication Design) senior exhibition project at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), is a guerilla marketing campaign intended to bring awareness to the 5,712 missing and murdered Indigenous women in the United States.
