TamaraJohnstonHeadShotforIDTamara Johnston has worked in the museum field for over 20 years, specializing in collections care, education, and non-western collections. She has a master’s degree in Museum Studies from the George Washington University and a baccalaureate in Art History and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin. Tamara has worked in a wide range of collections such as the American Geographical Society Library and Archive at UW – Milwaukee, the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists, the Kohler Foundation, Bryn Mawr College’s Art and Archaeology Collection and the Penn Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. Tamara began teaching art history at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2008 and is now an adjunct Professor in art history. She developed several courses specifically for art and design students such as: The Artist and the Museum, Preservation and Intellectual Property for Artists & Designers; Survey of Native American Art & Design; Survey of African Art & Design; World Textiles and Clothing: Ancient to Modern; Globalization of Fashion: 16th c to Fast Fashion. The preservation and intellectual property rights course is designed to encourage the next generation of artists to preserve, document and protect their own art and design. Tamara also teaches general art history for Freshman (ARTH151) and Sophomore level art history courses: the History of Modernism-Design (ARTH213 & ARTH214) and the History of Modernism-Fine Art (ARTH212).
