Abby Armstrong Check received her PhD in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2026). She is a medievalist and art historian whose research centers on how objects, spaces, and images shaped urban identity in the medieval world and how that history continues to resonate today. Her work focuses on sculpture, sacred and civic architecture, and material culture especially of medieval Jewish communities in France. Her interests also extend beyond the archive into public history and contemporary medievalism, especially medieval art and architecture in the midwest region of the United States. She is also a painter, dabbling mostly in ink, oil paint, and the historical practice of egg tempera.
