Student/Alumni Mentoring Program
The Student/Alumni Mentoring Program matches MIAD students in their Freshman, Sophomore or Junior year with MIAD, Milwaukee School of the Arts or Layton School of Art alumni for professional guidance and mentorship. MIAD mentors can assist with career advice to develop the skills needed to succeed in their careers.

MIAD will match students and alumni in September 2018. The program officially begins with a launch party Wednesday, October 10.
To apply to be an alumni mentor, please fill out the Alumni Application Form. Applications for alumni mentors and students are due September 26.

Alumni Application Form
Submit the Alumni Application Form by September 26 to apply to be an alumni mentor.
Once your application is received, it will be reviewed and we will do our best to pair you with a student who shares a similar major or field of interest. It is possible that you may not have a match for the 2018-2019 year, but we will do our best to match you next year, and will keep your information on file for other MIAD Student/Alumni events.
As an alumni mentor, you are expected to speak to your student at least once a month during the course of the program. You will receive an email with a suggested topic to discuss with your matched student. These topics serve as a guide to help with professional development.
If you live in the Milwaukee area, we also encourage you to invite your mentee to shadow you at work one day, schedule permitting.

Submit the Student Application Form by September 26 to apply to participate in the 2018-2019 MIAD Student/Alumni Mentoring program.
Once your application is received, it will be reviewed and we will do our best to pair you with an alumnus/a who shares a similar major or field of interest. It is possible that you will not have a match for the 2018-2019 year, but we will do our best to pursue future matches. We will also keep your information on file for other MIAD Student/Alumni events.
As a student mentee, you are expected to attend the program kickoff on Wednesday, October 10. You also are expected to speak to your mentor at least once a month during the course of the program. You will receive an email with a suggested topic to discuss each month with your paired mentor.
After you fill out the Student Application Form, we will contact you about your pairing in early October.

MIAD elects new trustees Paul Fletcher and Jacqualyn Laughlin
Paul Fletcher, a principal product designer at LinkedIn, and Jacqualyn Laughlin, co-founder of Invisible Ink Partners, were elected members of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s Board of Trustees at the college’s annual meeting in June.
Double ASID award winner is inspired by nature and internships
Rising senior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) Adam Wold ’27 received two awards in May from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) major won the Silver Award in the Commercial category and the Bronze Award in the Residential category.
MIAD faculty, alumni shine at WI Visual Art Achievement Awards
Professor Leslie Fedorchuk and alumni of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) received four of the eight individual 2026 Wisconsin Visual Art Achievement Awards for “their significant contributions to the state’s creative culture.”
National Society of Illustrators honors 13 MIAD students
Works by 13 students and recent graduates of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) were selected from among 4,550 nationwide submissions to receive 2026 honors from the national Society of Illustrators.
Pallas Textiles competition provides real-world experience
First-place winner Sophia Simonson ’28 created Refractions as part of her MIAD studies in Interior Architecture and Design. She is one of 20 students studying at MIAD through a cross-registration program with Concordia University. MIAD students Kaitlyn Powers ’26 (Illustration) and Natalie Spetell ’27 (Product Design), both of whom have minors in Communication Design, received Honorable Mentions.
