Sixteen students from the Chicago-based Marwen Pre-College Summer Program enjoyed an all-day campus visit and drawing workshop at MIAD on June 22 that aims to help them make their college selections for next fall.
The high-school students toured MIAD’s facilities and residence hall, the Historic Third Ward and the Milwaukee Art Museum before returning to Chicago with vital information about all that MIAD and Milwaukee have to offer them as potential art and design students. Workshop instructor and event host Kurt Meinke, who has been the liaison to the Marwen program for 19 years, is a MIAD alumnus and director of MIAD’s enrollment alliances and international programs.
Marwen’s Pre-College Program is part of its College and Career Division, which provides a resource to Chicago’s under-served youth who are interested in pursuing advanced education in the visual arts. MIAD is grateful to Gina Anselmo, Marwen’s manager of college and career planning; Sarah Atlas, assistant manager of college and career planning; and Christian Ortiz, coordinator of college and career planning, for coordinating this year’s visit to MIAD.
