Fall 2022 New Student Information

Welcome to MIAD!

On behalf of the faculty and staff at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, we look forward to welcoming you on-campus. This page is exclusively for new students who have decided to attend MIAD this fall. Please continue to check back as this page is regularly updated.

Tuition Deposit

To secure a space in our Fall 2022 Class, students are required to submit a tuition deposit. This payment informs MIAD that you intend to enroll for the upcoming semester.

What Happens Next?

We are excited that you’ll be joining us this fall! Now that you’ve made your college choice, many different offices on campus will be sharing lots of information to help you prepare to attend MIAD. Please take a moment to review our What Happens Next? brochure which covers many frequently asked questions and answers to help you plan this summer and prepare for fall. We can’t wait to welcome you to campus!

Email Accounts

Students will begin receiving their official MIAD email account in mid-May. Activation instructions will be sent to students’ personal email address on file with the Office of Admissions. We encourage you to activate and begin using your MIAD email account right away. Important information, including registration and Orientation materials, will be sent to your MIAD email only.

Be Financially Prepared for Fall

Tuition invoices are mailed after you register for classes. Do you have questions on how to cover your balance, pay for housing or purchase technology? Be financially prepared for fall! Summer is a great time to connect with MIAD’s Financial Aid Office, if you have not already done so. They are happy to answer questions regarding funding your balance for tuition and housing, applying for a Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), or securing a private loan. It is also important that you use the summer to complete any missing documents or verification.

If this is your first time borrowing Federal student loans, you’ll also need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and an Entrance Counseling Session, which help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. Both the MPN and the Entrance Counseling Session can be completed online at studentaid.gov. Use your FSA ID to log in, the same one you used to  complete the FAFSA online.

Have questions? Connect with MIAD’s outstanding financial aid staff.

Transcripts, Scores & More!
  • All new, entering students must submit final transcripts at the conclusion of their semester to the Office of Admissions. First-time freshman must submit a final transcript showing their date of graduation. This transcript can be requested from your school counselor and sent to MIAD digitally or via mail (273 E. Erie St., Milwaukee, WI 53202). A final, official transcript must be on file with the Office of Admissions prior to the start of fall classes.
  • Transfer students should ensure a transcript with final grades for the semester is sent to MIAD as soon as possible to ensure timely evaluation of credits and registration.
  • High school students who have taken classes for credit through a pre-college or dual enrollment program must submit a final, official transcript to MIAD prior to the start of classes for credit consideration.
  • Students may request to have their AP (Advanced Placement) scores sent to MIAD at: https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/sending-scores. MIAD’s AP school code is 1506
  • MIAD also recognizes the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program. Official records should be sent to MIAD for evaluation.

Neither MIAD nor Marquette require immunization records. All MIAD students are required to be covered by health insurance. If a student is not covered by health insurance, or will be out of network in Milwaukee and desire additional coverage, they may purchase health insurance through MIAD. All students receive information about the coverage offered through MIAD via email before classes begin in August. Open enrollment for insurance runs through the beginning of classes. For more information about health insurance or to enroll, please contact Lindy Stein, MIAD’s Dean of Students, lindystein@miad.edu.

Laptop Purchase Guide

All MIAD students are required to bring a laptop to MIAD. Thinking about buying a new laptop or have questions about technology? The MIAD Laptop Purchase Guide answers many questions and will help you make the best decision about a laptop. The guide also gives recommendations based on your major and interests. Have questions? Feel free to reach out to Tech Services at 414.847.3364 or via your MIAD email at support@miad.edu with questions about laptops or technology.

You will receive an email in August with instructions on how to download Adobe CC and Microsoft Office.

Supplies

All new MIAD students receive supply kits for various courses based on your class registration and schedule. These kits provide core supplies needed for FYE courses. Kits are automatically charged to your tuition bill based on your schedule and will be placed in your MIAD locker at the start of Orientation. More information regarding supplies will be sent to you later this summer.

Transfer students will receive information at the start of the semester from their faculty regarding what materials they need to purchase (based on chosen major). Transfer students have the option of purchasing a core kit of supplies. More information will be sent to your MIAD email account this summer.

You will need to purchase some supplies throughout the year, including papers, boards, other surfaces and other supplies as instructed by faculty. We encourage you to plan for extra supplies throughout the year. BLICK Art Materials is located directly across the street from MIAD’s main academic building and offers gift cards.
