Amos Kennedy – Creativity Series Visiting Artst 

Join us at the upcoming Creativity Series with Amos Kennedy, Letterpress artist, on Wednesday, November 11, 6 p.m.  
 
Hear Kennedy speak about his provocative print works – as always, the event is free and open to the public. There will be a meet and greet in the lobby after the talk. 
 
Kennedy left his corporate job at the age of 40 to pursue his passion for printing and continues to redefine the rule s of printmaking everyday. I n 2008, a critically acclaimed docume ntary, “ Proceed and Be Bold! ,” was produced about him by Brown Finch Films.
 
During his week-long visit to MIAD beginning Monday, November 9, Kennedy will be an artist in action. Watch him printing in public spaces and view his variety of prints that will tile the walls of MIAD (and will be for sale) on Wednesday, November 11, 6 p.m.

Ashley Nicole Town ’07 (Communication Design) is celebrating one year of ownership at the Bay View Print Co., a 100-year-old historic print shop in Bay View that is now open as a community space. Learn more and join in the celebration.

Jessica Kaminski ’01 (Photography) is on the cover of M Magazine for her MKE Beard Book project. The release party for the book is Thursday, November 5 at Hotel Foster.

Steven Lubahn ’94 (Drawing) and Tom Uttech ’65 (ISA), along with twenty other artists, are part of  “Black and White and Shades of Gray” on view at Gallery 224 through December 12.

Heather Haney-King ’96 (IAD) was recently named Director of Operations at Dimension Design’s Las Vegas production hub.

Boris Pelcer ’07 (Illustration) is now represented worldwide by Début Art Ltd., known for promoting one of the finest and most contemporary leading talent groupings in the field of illustration.

Christopher Willey  ’04 (drawing) has a solo show, Emotional Topographies,  at Texas A&M – Commerce.  The exhibition is open from October 26 – November 20.

Lilly Duermeier ’11 (Illustration), Designer at Kohl’s Corporate, is featured on Kohl’s Website for her St. Nicholas Square “Yeti For Snow” hand towel design.

Mike Kasun ’86 (Illustration) recently finished illustrating his fifth children’s book, “Little Raccoon’s New Day,” by Judith Campbell. The story is designed for beginning readers, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Pajama Program for new books and pajamas for children in need.

Kasun also recently created the 2016 Indianapolis 500 logo and a sample piece of artwork for the event. This is the 100th running of the event. Kasun worked with Peter Kim from MSK Indianapolis who art directed the creation of the logo.

Kyle James’s ’15 (TBM) short film Death Drive was accepted into the 2015 Lone Star Film Festival on Saturday, November 7 from 1:45 – 3:45 p.m.

The Pitch Project and Plum Blossom Initiative join together to present Bridge Work 01, Opening Friday, November 13 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.  The exhibition will run through November 22 during The Pitch Project Gallery’s public hours on the second floor ‘Platform Space.’

Bridge Work 01 features work from Rachel Hausmann ’15 (ISA), Kayle Karbowski ’15 (ISA) and Julia Levis ’15 (Drawing).

Brian Bowles ’01 (Communication Design), Senior Art Director at Kohl’s, was recently a keynote speaker for In-House design Xchange at Best Place in the Historic Pabst Brewery. His topic was Zen and the Art of Brand Repair, and he talked about the similarities between solving design problems and fixing and restoring motorcycles.

Veronica Ceci ’99 (Printmaking), recently hired as Gallery Director for the Bone Black Gallery in Austin, TX, is curating a Flash Collective exhibition that will open at The Noble Swede Gallery in LaGrange, TX this November.

 The Bone Black Gallery and print studio is the public face of the nonprofit organization WPA. Ceci would like to invite MIAD alumni who work on paper to join this thriving arts community.

Beki Borman’s ’04 (Painting) exhibit of new landscape paintings, Chromascapes, in currently on view at Gallery13 in Minneapolis, MN through November 28.

12th Annual Feed Your Soul Benefit 

Join committee members Leah Good ’04 (Communication Design), Jeremy Shamrowicz ’98 (Sculpture) and Mary Gordon ’83 (Graphic Design) for the 12th annual Feed Your Soul benefit art auction on Friday, Nov. 6, from 7:30 – 11 p.m. at Flux Design.  There will be delectable appetizers by Giovanni’s, custom cocktails by Art Bar, one of a kind raffle items, as well as a silent art auction featuring wooden bowls that are transformed into works of art, as well as other original pieces. 


The proceeds from the event benefit Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

Alumni ID – Facilities Access

Have you let your Alumni ID expire?  Do you have a project at home that you haven’t finished because you don’t have the right tools? Getting your Alumni ID has never been easier! 

All Alumni have the option to register for access to MIAD labs for personal use. Recent Alumni will be issued a free ID card to access college lab facilities for one year after graduation. Alumni who graduated over a year ago must pay the nominal fee of $25 to get an alumni ID to access labs on an annual basis. To learn more,  click here.
