MIAD Café & Main Street Mini-Mart Food service is provided by S.L. Swanson, a Wisconsin-based, family-owned company that specializes both in small, retail food service operations (like MIAD's) and high-end catering for special events. Because it is a Milwaukee-area company, Swanson allows for a flexible, more varied menu, fresher food items and a management team responsive to student needs. Swanson also offers a variety of grab & go food items in its Main Street Mini-Mart students can take home, including heat & serve. For added convenience the Mini-Mart is open whenever MIAD is open. MIAD's food service for the 2011-2012 academic year is voluntary; students can dine in the MIAD Café in the academic building when they wish, and pay only for the food items they take. Beginning in the Fall Semester of 2012 residents of The Park will be required to have a small meal plan ($250/semester) that is being implemented to ensure students have access to food service while they are away from their residence The MIAD Café operates on a cash, credit card or debit card basis. Because few students carry cash, a credit card or debit card is recommended. The Student Union also takes credit and debit cards, in addition to cash. The Mini-Mart accepts cash, credit & debit cards and the Mini-Mart Key Fob. Students can create a Key Fob account at the Mini-Mart payment kiosk and establish an initial balance with cash, credit & debit card payment. All items purchased at the Mini-Mart are deducted from the Key Fob account on a declining balance. Beginning in the Fall Semester of 2012 the Key Fob will also be accepted for payment in the Café. All residents of The Park will receive a Key Fob for the Café when they check into their residence in August. A website is being created that will enable parents to add additional funds to the Key Fob on-line. More information will be available once the website goes live.
MIAD Student Union MIAD’s Student Union is a student managed, student staffed cooperative that is home to most student activities & organizations on campus. The Union is a casual gathering place for students before, between & after classes and frequently hosts live student performances. The Union houses a student run gallery space in which students can have their work shown publicly. But the main focus of the Union is its coffee shop with a variety of specialized coffees, tea’s, snacks, sandwiches and other light fare. The Union also accepts payment via cash, credit & debit cards.
