When you start your college search, you will hear about many quality institutions, and you will seriously consider a few. With so many options and opportunities, the question arises, "Why MIAD?" To help answer that fundamental question, here are ten reasons students choose MIAD: Hands On ![]() On the first day of class, students are immersed in the studio. The traditional student starts with 10.5 credits of intense, multi-disciplinary studio coursework the very first semester. Compare that to many 4-year art programs where a student might not get their first art class until sophomore year. As part of the First Year Experience, students participate in the annual RPM exhibition, a Professional Symposium, and MIAD Define, an all-day event where foundations students discuss the Senior Thesis Exhibition with graduating seniors. A Complete Education ![]() MIAD offers a studio-centered program of study, supplemented with a vital liberal studies component; the curricula reflect the latest in professional needs, techniques, trends, and innovations. This is the place where intellectual growth happens. Committed to helping create artists and designers that have both depth and breadth, students find balance in the curriculum between focus on their major interest and innovative cross-disciplinary study, with faculty who are highly knowledgeable in specific disciplines and careers.
MIAD's Facility ![]() The hub of creativity, this 245,000 square foot building overlooking the Milwaukee River is completely devoted to the education of studio artists & designers. It is an interactive, dynamic, breathing space where students accomplish the majority of their learning in the classrooms and studios. Unlike a traditional university where a student may only be on campus for lectures and exams, MIAD’s campus is an integral part of a student’s learning experience. With extended course periods and open studio and lab spaces, our students often spend more hours in the day on campus than in their own home.
The Faculty ![]() MIAD's devoted faculty is one of the most important yet intangible factors about MIAD. They create a unique balance of exciting challenge and support toward unsurpassed personal and professional development, which leads to rewarding creative careers. Our faculty are all working artists, designers, writers or researchers. Every day they engage, excite, critique, challenge, refine, define, develop, inspire and support their students.

All scholarships are four-year, as long as the student maintains continuous enrollment and satisfactory academic progress. In addition, MIAD offers a variety of financial aid through the Federal Process. Senior Thesis ![]() MIAD's unique Senior Thesis is a nearly year long endeavor, and a requirement for graduation. Each student creates an independent, highly developed and refined body of design or fine art work, which is presented to the public at an opening reception which draws hundreds of viewers. Employers, gallery owners, museum curators, and patrons of the arts join our students in their transformation to creative professionals. Senior Thesis is the culmination of a student’s education at MIAD, and it truly is the beginning of a lifetime of learning, and realization of one’s distinctive creative voice.
Careers At MIAD, we don't believe in a sole definition of success. We know for some the meaning lies in fame and prestige. For others it’s about meeting a goal, or leading a fulfilling life. Many people measure success not by the accumulation of things, or money, but by what they have given back to their community. Success is malleable, personal. At MIAD, we give students the tools they need to follow their creative endeavors. Their work becomes an extension of who they are, and they leave MIAD ready to enrich their communities. And, as far as success goes, we teach our students to name it, to define it, in their own terms. The Work MIAD student and alumni work is simply some of the strongest in the nation. After seeing what our students achieve in four years compared to any other college, students consistently choose MIAD.
