How to Apply for Financial Aid Print

All students attending MIAD who wish to receive need-based aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is completed as an electronic application on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov; make sure to use MIAD's FAFSA Code, 014203. To ensure that you will not miss out on consideration for all funds, complete your application as soon as possible.

Your MIAD financial aid package will tell you the approximate MIAD costs for the 2012-2013 academic year and the kinds and amounts of scholarships and financial aid you are eligible to receive. It will have information as to specific requirements that you have to fulfill to receive your scholarships and financial aid. If your award letter is identified as an "ESTIMATE", the awards listed on the letter are tentative and subject to change. If you have received an estimate your financial aid award will become "FINAL" when your financial aid file is complete. In order to complete your financial aid file, you must file a FAFSA and submit all required "missing" documents. If you wish to decline any part of your award, please indicate it on your award letter and return to the Financial Aid Office.

Up to 30% of all students are selected in a process called "Verification". This means that we must verify or check information on your financial aid forms against your IRS Tax Transcript to make sure your answers are correct. Students selected for verification have a message informing them about verification on their Student Aid Report (SAR); a multi-page report students receive after their FAFSA has been processed. If your application has been selected for verification, please note that your financial aid award will not be "FINAL" until the verification process has been completed.

MIAD strongly recommends that you utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA to import your IRS data.  This will eliminate the need to submit your IRS Tax Transcripts if you are selected for verification.

Additional documentation may be required if you are an independent student, or if information on your application was unclear or inconsistent. Please submit any requested information as soon as possible, and contact the MIAD Financial Aid Office if you have difficulty getting any requested documents. Failure to provide requested information in a timely manner may result in the loss of financial aid funds.
