Overdue notices (paper and email) are sent out as a courtesy reminder to library patrons. Items are due back to MIAD or the given SWITCH library on the specified due date whether a notice was received or not. Notices are mailed the day after an item is due. Overdue charges become effective on the 10th day an item is overdue. The charge is $1 per day PER ITEM. Items that are overdue more than 10 days generate a replacement charge. Replacement charges for books are $50 per item plus a $10 processing fee; replacement charges for periodicals are $30 per item plus a $10 processing fee. Books that are later found (within six months) and are in good condition may be returned for a refund. The replacement charge ($50 or $30) will be returned; the $10 processing fee will not be returned. The same charges apply to books and periodicals returned in damaged condition. Library Reserve materials that are returned late incur a fine of 25-cents per hour until returned. A block may be placed on a student's record if she or he owes more than $10 in overdues or other charges. A block will prevent a student from registering for classes, or receiving a transcript. Off-site access to databases and other services ususally available through TOPCAT will also be blocked. Any questions about fees or fines should be directed to library staff at the Circulation Desk.
