The Future Designers Program brings groups of 6th-12th graders and their teachers to MIAD for a short-term program that provides them with stimulating learning and teaching opportunities. It also offers them career, pre-college awareness and interdisciplinary art and design lessons.
Future Designers addresses an awareness of the power of the design process which has been stressed in recent years by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and national educational trends. Design process/projects transfer easily across disciplines and is a natural for integrating with math, history and English, health sciences and other subjects.
Some Future Designers programs have extended beyond the two-day structure to allow for more in-depth projects or school scheduling.
Future Designers received a Program of Distinction Award from the PK-16 leadership council in 2006, and a Bromising Practice Award in 2004.
