Webster Middle School
Students from Webster toured the Eisner Museum's Pop-up Exhibit, spoke with
the museum curator, learned about museum didactic material and then created
Gallery Game brochures (using Adobe Illustrator software, digital images and
their own text). The brochures were designed to help visitors engage fully with
the exhibit content, learn more and be able to take printed information with
them.
Students from Webster visited MIAD for a second Future Designers program learning
about logos and identity marks and then creating logos for their school which
they wrote about afterward, identifying the reasons for the symbols, colors
and shapes that they selected.
North Division High School
Students from North Division visited MIAD to visit the Up In Smoke exhibit at
the Eisner Museum. They learned about the cigarette industry and how it targets
specific audiences in its advertising, including young adults. They met with
a woman who specializes in cigarette counter/anti-smoking campaigns and then
created anti-smoking campaign poster using Adobe Illustrator.
Students from North Division High School participated in a second extended
version of Future Designers that grew out of the experience that their teachers
had had at MIAD's Creative Educator's Institute. North Division technology teacher
Thomas Markowski along with two social studies teachers, Mr. Finner and Mr.
Arrington worked with MIAD Special Programs Coordinator and professional filmmakers/videographers
to create digital video documentaries using iMovie software, digital video cameras,
digital still cameras and soundtracks. The documentaries were the result of
a school-wide study of African nations that included Internet research, student
written text, interviews with Milwaukee teachers from Africa and a live videoconference
interview with Senator Russ Feingold about his involvement with the Senate Sub-Committee
on African Affairs. A screening of the finished products took place at the Eisner
Museum auditorium with North Division students, MIAD community, elected officials
and public invited.
Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning
Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning offered their students a Future
Designer's program where students designed logos for their school using Adobe
Illustrator and wrote about their design results. The logo designs were entered
in a statewide competition sponsored by Wisconsin Art Education Association
and one WCLL student won an award for her design. All of the student-designed
logos were displayed in the WCLL lobby.
Other schools that have participated in Future Designers programs include Edison
School, Metcalfe School, Sara Scott,
Jackie Robinson Middle School, Lincoln Middle School
of the Arts, Walden School (Racine)
