FAQ's BY JOB POSTERS
How long are position announcements posted? Position
announcements are entered into our database and then emailed out to students
and graduates on our email list who are seeking work. Each position
announcement is only emailed once, unless the client contacts us again and
asks that the announcement be emailed again. A paper copy of the
announcement is then posted in our office area for about a week.
Who sees the announcements? Our position announcements
are seen by any current MIAD student or graduate who is on our email list
and any student or graduate who stops by the Career Services office to look
at the paper postings.
Can I post a position for a volunteer? Yes, volunteer
positions can be posted. It can be, however, more challenging to get
interest from a student or graduate for an unpaid opportunity.
What does an internship involve? All internships at
MIAD are for credit. Consequently, the following three fundamental
requirements exist for businesses/organizations who want to be internship
sites:
-
Site must provide a workspace for the student and allow the student to
work on-site;
-
Site will provide a minimum of 90 hours of on-site work and accomplish
what is outlined in the internship description of duties and
responsibilities provided by the business/organization;
-
Supervisor of student must have a professional background that coincides
with the student's interests and/or major.
How much does it cost to post an announcement? There
is no charge to post an announcement with our office.
How much do I pay the student/graduate? The issue of
compensation is best handled by discussing it with each individual that
inquires about your position.
Do I pay per project or per hour? The type of payment,
per project or per hour, is dependent on the project and the individual
completing the project. We advise discussing this with each individual that
inquires about the position.
What are the majors of study at MIAD? There are nine
(9) majors of study at MIAD. The four design majors are: Communication
(Graphic) Design, Illustration, Industrial (Product) Design, and Interior
Architecture + Design. The five fine art majors are: Drawing, Painting,
Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
Can students/graduates do work that is outside of their major?
Yes, many students and graduates have interests and creative talents outside
of their particular major.
Do you have a list of students/graduates that can complete my
project? We do not have a list of students or graduates that
we can give you. We do have a list of student and graduate email addresses
that we send job opportunity information to on a daily basis. We do
have resumes on file for several of our graduates and students. We will
forward those resumes to businesses hiring a student or a graduate for an
internship or a full-time position. You may visit the Galleries section
of our web site and click on "Student Work" to view student work in our
on-line gallery, or you may visit the Alumni & Friends section and click on
"Alumni Professional Directory" to learn about some of our alumni. If there
is an individual you would like to contact, please let us know, and we will
forward your information to that person to contact you.
Can I post opportunities other than job ads? Yes, you
may also post announcements for Contests, Competitions, Exhibitions, and
Informational/Educational announcements such as web sites, job fairs,
classes, and workshops.
