Besides the all-school major events of Halloween (the Masquerade Ball, pumpkin-carving, and Haunted House) and the Spring Warehouse Party, students gather together with their fellow majors for a variety of field trips to places like Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Wisconsin Dells, Door County, etc., and to meet and work with visiting artists and designers. Annually, MIAD students paint merchant store windows in the Historic Third Ward for the holiday season and exhibit their artwork at Marquette University's Union. MIAD students gather often-finding many excuses for ordering pizza together. The student-designed and student-staffed MIAD Student Union and Strange Brew Café are not only friendly environments for informal visiting among students and faculty, but also serve as centers for many student-initiated activities, including pool tournaments, darts, chess, open microphone nights featuring MIAD performers and poets, and live music from MIAD and other local bands. The student union director also encourages students to mount art shows in the Union and the Strange Brew Café. MIAD students are provided with thorough information about activities throughout the Milwaukee area via bulletin boards and weekly e-mail notices from the Campus Life Office. Campus Life also provides students with free or discounted tickets for all sorts of entertainment options, from popular movies to opera. Students can also work out their own particular activities with the assistance of the Campus Life Office in both planning and funding.
