Starved and Curious: Fahimeh VahdatPrint

Jan 31, 2006

Fahimeh Vahdat, MIAD Painting Faculty, will present a lecture on the evolution of her art, culminating in the body of work: "What Will Befall Her?" Vahdat's work is currently on exhibition at the Layton Gallery along with the work of three other artists of Middle Eastern origin. She will discuss the issue of content in art and the capacity of art to be a vehicle for social activism. As an educator, Vahdat believes that art can serve to teach, to work towards modifying behavior, and to help inspire people to create a more harmonized world. Vahdat's work, throughout her career, has consistently grown from the premise that art has the power to affect positive change in society. Such a belief moves in and out of fashion yet she has continued to speak, through her work, to human issues, confident that what is good in humanity can be encouraged through visual means.
