A full-blooded Ojibwe of the Fish Clan, Mr. Benton Banaise is a Spiritual Teacher of the Lac Court Orielles Band of the the Ojibwe Nation. He was founder of Red School House, an Indian controlled school with 150 K-8 Indian students. He is a pioneer in culture-based curriculum and Indian alternative education who believes that education should be built on identity, spirituality, music, heritage, and pride.

As author of The Mishomis Book, (Indian Country Press) Banaise has set down the oral history of the Ojibwe nation and has presented his life within the family circle. He learned from the tribal elders who possessed the memories and wisdom of Ojibwe abnd carefully preserved the ancient appearances.

Mr. Benton Banaise is co-founder of the American Indiam Movement (AIM).

He is coming to MIAD specifically to speak to all students enrolled in HS380 - Community Service, but all members of the MIAD community are welcome to come and hear him speak.
