Since graduating from MIAD in 1996 with a BFA in Graphic Design and a Minor in Illustration, James worked for both advertising agencies and web development companies before starting his own firm in 2003, crookedjaw design + illustration.

Kohler, Master Lock, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Best Buy, Schick, Zantac, GE Medical and Perdue Farms are just a few of the wide array of clients he has designed for.

In addition to Graphic Design and Illustration, James is also a painter and has exhibited work on several occasions around the Milwaukee area, including a juried exhibit at the Artpost Gallery in Grafton and has donated art to the Eisner Museum’s 100 square feet of art.

James has taught design related courses at both MIAD and the Waukesha County Technical College over the past few years. As a teacher, designer and artist James enjoys the development process and believes that if properly implemented the end result will be a strong, well thought out visual communication. He also cannot put enough emphasis on the importance of critiques. “It’s critical that one learns constructive criticism early on in life; it’s what helps our work continually evolve”.
