In her teaching at MIAD, Sher Schachameyer combines years of experience as a graphic designer with a life-long love of art history and interdisciplinary studies. She earned an MA in art history at UWM and graduated summa cum laude with a BA in philosophy and minors in English and art from Southeast Missouri State, with junior year at Washington U. in St. Louis.
A job in a St. Louis art studio launched Sher into a rewarding creative career that included working for an ad agency, publishers, design offices, corporations, and a museum. Highlights include winning awards for her work in both advertising and publishing, the publishing of Imaginals—a children's book she designed and illustrated, running her own freelance design business, Schachameyer Design—and working in virtual partnership with other designers and writers on a wide variety of print and web design projects.
Recently, Sher reorganized her professional life to include teaching art history at MIAD and docenting at Milwaukee Art Museum, while still working part-time as a graphic designer. It is a synthesis of academic and artistic interests that she expects will enrich both her creative work and her teaching.
