Cedar Marie received an MFA in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was a recipient of both a David and Edith Sinaiko Frank Graduate Fellowship for a Woman in the Arts and an Advance Opportunity Fellowship.

The displacement of the human body, in its relationships to the production of physical objects, is a central focus of her current work.

Marie is interested in the cultural and emotional understanding of objects and how they influence our daily lives. She combines hand-crafted objects with mass-produced commodities or found objects into installations and sculptural narratives. She brings together hair with materials like steel, wood, and glass to explore our understanding of physicality.

Marie's work has been exhibited in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Massachusetts, and Brazil, and is cited in numerious publications including the Wisconsin State Journal, Slate Magazine, and most recently the College Art Association's Spring 2005 issue of Art Journal.
