Dale William Shidler, Professor, Communication Design, is in his eighth year at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). Before coming to MIAD he was on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago. Dale has a BA in Elementary Education from Bethel College/Indiana and an MFA in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University/Ohio. In addition to his full-time teaching, Dale has taught for the Creative Educators Institute, the University and College Designers Association and other national education groups. He has also taught extensively in MIAD’s Future Designers Program, providing design education in K-12 schools in the Milwaukee area. Dale was a presenter at the 2007 WEAC (Wisconsin Education Association Council) Conference.

Mr. Shidler has worked as a designer for over twenty-five years and has worked in both corporate and agency settings as well as operating his own freelance design business since 1986. Dale’s specialties are corporate identity and packaging. His clients have included the Chicago Chocolate Company, University School Milwaukee, Taylor & Francis Books, and Mennonite Central Committee. Dale assists AIDS Resource Center Wisconsin and other non-profits with volunteer design services each year.
