 Steve Lacey, IDSA, received his BFA from Rockford College with a major in Printmaking
and a minor in Education. Before coming to MIAD, he was variously employed as
a printmaker, art teacher, architect’s assistant, contract furniture designer
and production manager and, finally, self-employed as a designer and producer
of furniture and fixtures for residential and commercial markets.
At MIAD, Steve serves as the Director of the 3-D Lab and Instructor in the
Industrial Design Area. During the past twenty-five years, he has developed
the 3-D Lab into one of the finest educational shop facilities in the United
States. Steve has designed furniture and fixtures for MIAD including studios
for Illustration, Communication Design, Industrial Design, Painting and Time
Based Media as well as various displays, easels, displays, tables and desks.
As an educator, Steve has equal interest in Design and the Fine Arts and thinks
of his role at MIAD as a bridge between the imagined and the realized in the
production of artifacts of all types.
Steve continues to produce hand-made one of a kind furniture and is an avid
sailor of wooden boats.
