I have been Dean of the Foundations Division at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design since 1992.  Prior to my appointment as Dean, I was a full-time foundations faculty member.  In addition to my administrative duties, I continue to delight in teaching in the Foundations Division. 

My personal artwork is created using acrylic paint on paper.  I am interested in exploring themes of chance, luck, concealment, entanglement, and deception through form and color.  My most recent paintings further these investigations with an emphasis on order vs. chaos.  I continue to exhibit my work locally.  My most recent work can be viewed on the MIAD website. 

I am active in the national organization of foundations educators, Foundations in Art: Theory & Education (FATE), serving as a regional coordinator for a number of years.  I also served two years as Vice President for the FATE 2007 Biennial Conference, which was hosted by MIAD in March 2007.  This was the most successful conference the organization has seen, attracting 314 registrants from 40 states and four countries. In April 2008 I will be giving the keynote address to a regional FATE conference held in Waukesha

For over five years I have been associated with studio art Advanced Placement of the Educational Testing Service.  I have served as a reader (evaluator) of portfolios, participant in a comparability study, and recently as a reviewer of syllabi for the AP Course Audit.  Twice in five years I was chosen to be part of a team of three educators who pick images for the annual AP Studio Art poster.  In the past four years I have participated in reviewing and suggesting changes to art/design textbooks for the Thomson Learning Division of McGraw-Hill Publishers.
