JuJuPrint

Ran from Feb 4, 2003 to Mar 15, 2003
Layton Gallery

Curated by Ras Ammar Nsoroma, this exhibition includes artists George Ray McCormick, Della Wells, Muneer Bahauddeen, Khary Peay, Tony Finlayson, Teju Ologbani, Gerald Duane Coleman, Gene Cooke, Tamara Natalie Madden. JuJu is an artform that can be traced back to the very dawn of humankind in Africa. Originally the term applied to the power of a charm to protect, bring good fortune, heal or harm an enemy. In it's current incarnation, JuJu can be described as an artform in any media which brings about a spiritual or physical transformation. This exhibition explores the relevance and continued potency of this concept for African American artists working in America at the beginning of the Twenty First Century.
