Interior Architecture and Design Major
In Interior Architecture and Design, you’ll experience a sense of wonder and curiosity about space and the built environment. Your understanding of the relationship between human interaction and space will be transformed. Composing dynamic interior environments, grounded by client- driven requirements and everyday circumstances, will prepare you to work in an architecture or interior design office, design/build firm, or as a custom furniture maker all while impacting the world around you.
Our program positions you in the heart of the Historic Third Ward, a thriving design and creative district. There are over 20 architecture and interior design firms located within a half-mile radius of MIAD. Interior Architecture and Design students and graduates work in almost all of them.
Our Curriculum
Focused, active engagements in residential design, office design, retail and exhibition design, and furniture design will expand your view of materiality and its effect on space and people. Combinations of colors, textures, lighting and furnishings will set the mood for spaces to inhabit, both commercial and residential. You’ll build a design identity that can imprint the spaces around you.
Interior Architecture and Design by the numbers. 70% of the top architectural firms in Milwaukee employ MIAD alumni. Rinka+ engagges Milwaukee youth in architecture, interiors and brand media work through MIAD’s Design Internship program and employs several MIAD alumni. The 4 largest architecture firms in Milwaukee – Eppstein Uhen Architects, Kahler Slater, HGA and Plunkett Raysich Architects – are within walking distance of MIAD. More than two dozen interior architecture projects have been completed by MIAD students on our campus.
